Storytelling and Sustainable Development Goal 3

Storytelling

Storytelling in education is a powerful teaching method that engages students by presenting information in a narrative format, making learning more relatable and memorable. It can be implemented through various approaches, such as digital storytelling, role-playing, interactive multimedia, and student-created stories. Educators can use storytelling to introduce complex concepts, spark discussions, and encourage creativity by integrating tools like digital comics, or historical reenactments.

The benefits of storytelling in learning include improved comprehension, critical thinking, and emotional connection to the subject matter. It fosters engagement, enhances retention, and supports the development of communication and problem-solving skills. Moreover, storytelling promotes inclusivity by allowing diverse perspectives and personal experiences to be shared, making learning more meaningful and accessible to all students.

SDG3: Good Health and Well-being

Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3), "Good Health and Well-Being," aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for people of all ages. It addresses key global health challenges such as reducing maternal and child mortality, combating infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS and malaria, and ensuring universal access to healthcare services, vaccines, and essential medicines.

SDG 3 also emphasizes the importance of mental health, road safety, and reducing the harmful effects of pollution and substance abuse. Achieving this goal requires strong healthcare systems, investment in medical research, and policies that promote healthy lifestyles and access to quality healthcare for all. By improving global health, SDG 3 contributes to overall sustainable development, enabling people to live longer, healthier, and more productive lives.

The Storytelling activity

A digital illustrated story about health and well-being in everyday life with the help of AI

STEP 1 – Introduction: In the plenary session, students watch the video "Good Health and Well-Being 🩺🩹 SDG 3 Sustainable Development Goals for Kids" on Youtube to learn about SDG 3.

STEP 2 – Story creation: Students, using Canva and Magic AI tool, write a collaborative story about the role of AI to human health (e.g. A robot assistant that helps track fitness goals, a health app that helps someone improve their diet, a doctor using AI to quickly diagnose and treat a patient, an empathy AI app for autistic persons). The story is written in sequences (chapters) by the collaborating schools and each partner illustrates the chapter of another partner using the Magic tool of Canva.

Learning goals

To explore and communicate ideas about health and well-being.

To develop skills in using Web 2.0 and AI tools for creating stories.

To learn how AI and technology can support health and well-being in everyday life.
